Valeriya Barakhvostova
Intern

Valeriya Barakhvostova is an intern at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), where she supports the REUNIR project team. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in data science and statistics at Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. Valeriya holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and spent a year as an exchange student at the University of Greifswald, where she deepened her focus on voting behavior and quantitative social research.
Before joining GPPi, Valeriya gained experience as a research assistant in Munich, Greifswald and Moscow, working on topics ranging from democratic attitudes to natural language processing and historical text analysis. She also interned at the Foresight Center of the Institute for Statistical Studies, as well as for the Moscow-based marketing research agency Data Insight. In addition to her research work, she has served as a teaching assistant for courses in digital literacy and data science.
Valeriya’s interests lie at the intersection of political science and data science; in particular, she is keen to study the spread of political information online, political participation and the role of artificial intelligence in democracy. She has participated in academic forums and policy competitions, including the “Future European Leaders Forum” at the Prague European Summit and the “Winter School on the Ethics of Neuroscience and AI” in Berlin.
