Paul Flachenecker
Research Associate
Paul is a research associate at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he contributes to the institute’s work on Peace & Security and Strategic Foresight, specifically by forecasting potential threats to democracy and security.
Paul’s research interests include novel methods for (geo-)political forecasting, conflict early warning processes and the use of algorithms in research and public policy. He has presented his research on these topics at international academic as well as policy-oriented conferences.
Prior to joining GPPi, Paul worked as an intern at the German Federal Foreign Office and at GPPi. He also held student assistant positions in the office of a member of the German parliament and in Adelphi’s Climate Diplomacy and Security team.
Paul holds a dual master’s degree in international governance and diplomacy from Sciences Po Paris and in political science from Freie Universität Berlin. Moreover, he completed a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Leiden University (the Netherlands) with minors in computer science and entrepreneurship.
His studies were supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
