Aaranya Alexander
Intern
Aaranya Alexander is an intern with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where she contributes to the institute’s projects on critical and emerging technologies. She is most interested in the global governance of advanced technology, as well as its ethical implications in military conflicts.
In the years before joining GPPi, Aaranya was a machine learning researcher at IonQ, a forefront quantum computing company. She also brings academic and internship experience in physics, AI and semiconductor devices. Most recently, Aaranya worked as a researcher at an NGO, focusing on documenting conflict and security in Sri Lanka. She brings a breadth of knowledge from working with United Nations mechanisms, international human rights and humanitarian law.
She previously completed a degree in nanotechnology engineering at the University of Waterloo (in Waterloo, Canada), where she specialized in quantum physics. Following this internship, Aaranya will be pursuing a dual-degree in civil and professional law at McGill University in Montreal.
