Sophie Weiss
Intern
Sophie Weis is an intern at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), where she contributes to the Global Dialogue project, focusing specifically on Indo-Pacific security architecture. Her research interests include the global economic order, wealth inequality and international tax governance, particularly the global minimum tax.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, with a concentration in globalization, social policy and the political economy of inequalities. During her studies, she conducted research on networks of high-net-worth individuals and their affiliations with neoliberal think tanks in Austria. In her master’s thesis, she examines the implications of the OECD’s ‘Pillar Two’ for the Global South in international tax governance.
Alongside her studies, Sophie worked as a tutor at the Department of Socioeconomics and, more recently, at the Institute for Digital Ecosystems at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where she worked on research related to two-sided markets, platform governance and misinformation. She has also gained experience in advisory firms in Berlin, focusing on strategic communication.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication in Social and Economic Contexts from the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK).
