Maximilian is a research assistant at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he contributes to the institute’s work on peace and security, particularly on local peacebuilding. Previously, he focused on digital threats to elections in Africa as part of the Stabilization Lab project. His research interests include democratization, democratic backsliding, the evaluation of stabilization policies, and geoeconomics.

Prior to joining GPPi, Maximilian worked as a student research assistant at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and at the Chair of Empirical Economics at the University of Potsdam, where he supported empirical research projects in labor economics and political economy. He also worked for the German Climate Consortium (DKK), where he helped communicate the latest climate research findings to policymakers and the general public.

Maximilian holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics with a focus on quantitative research methods and international relations from the University of Potsdam. He spent one semester of his undergraduate studies at the University of Oslo in Norway.
