Sören Buttkereit

Sören Buttkereit works in the corporate sustainability department of the technology company Siemens in Munich. His responsibilities include external stakeholder management, corporate memberships and alliances for sustainable development. In his work, he focuses on the creation of social and company values through sustainable infrastructure deployment.
Prior to Siemens, Sören was a strategy expert at McKinsey & Company, with an affiliation to the global initiative “Business in Society and Regulatory Strategy.” He advised organizations in both the private and the public sector on their strategy, often acting at the interface of both. Previous work experience in private and public institutions took him to Guatemala, Venezuela and the US, among others, where he mainly dealt with matters of international cooperation and development.
Sören received a Ph.D. in Economics from the Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg, focusing on the cooperation between the public and private sectors in his research. He also holds an M.A. in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University and a diploma (M.A. equivalent) in International Business Studies from the University of Passau.
He received scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes) and was awarded the Christian A. Herter Award for distinguished academic performance.
