Maria E. Rotter

Maria E. Rotter is a head of divison at the German Federal Press Office. Previously, Maria was a senior advisor to German MP and chairman of the European Affairs Committee, Gunther Krichbaum. From 2011 to 2012, she also served as a board member for Women in International Security Deutschland (WIIS.de); the German section of a global network for women in security policy. Prior to that, Maria worked for four years on foreign policy projects at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin.
During her studies, Maria interned with the German Foreign Office, the University of Wisconsin in Madison and the state parliament of Lower Saxony, Germany. She also co-founded and ran a transatlantic young leaders project called E(U)SA-2020. Maria holds a bachelor’s degree in European studies from the University of Osnabrück and a master’s degree in Central and Eastern European studies from the University of Regensburg. In 2011, she earned a PhD in political science from the University of Chemnitz with a thesis on the influence of bureaucratic politics on German and US democracy promotion.
She received scholarships from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for her undergraduate, graduate and PhD studies.
