Cecily Brewer

Cecily Brewer has worked for the US Department of State since June 2009. She is a foreign affairs officer in the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization, working on fragile states. She is currently in the Office of the Special Envoy to Sudan, where she works on negotiation and policy issues regarding Sudan and South Sudan. In her time at the State Department, she has facilitated strategic planning and assessment processes at US embassies in Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan and the Central African Republic.

Cecily has lived in Juba, South Sudan, where she ran community security projects for the non-governmental organization Pact, as well as in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she worked on DDR programs (disarmament, demobilization and reintegration) for USAID. Cecily worked as a research associate at GPPi from 2005 – 2006, contributing to the Business UNusual conference, the SEED initiative report and a report for the Overseas Development Institute – Business Engagement in Humanitarian Relief.

She received her master’s in international relations and international economics from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and holds a bachelor’s from Amherst College.
