Intern

Carlo Uhl is an intern at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), where he contributes to GPPi’s work on critical and emerging technologies. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociology and technology studies at the Technische Universität Berlin, with a minor in computer science. During his semester abroad at UC Berkeley, he studied sociology, computer science and data ethics.

Carlo has worked as a student research assistant at the Berlin-based Weizenbaum Institute since September 2023, supporting projects on large language models (LLMs), digital platforms, as well as AI alignment and safety. He was also a visiting student researcher at UC Berkeley’s School of Information, where he examined the algorithmic amplification of political content on social media. He began his professional experience at a law firm, conducting literature reviews and online research.

Carlo’s interests lie at the intersection of sociology, politics and data. He focuses on mis- and disinformation on social media, the governance of digital platforms and critical technologies, and biases in AI-powered systems.
