Berlin voters care about more than refugee policy

Social inequality, the economy and the school system were more important to the majority of Berlin voters than Chancellor Merkel’s refugee policy, argued Sarah Brockmeier on Deutsche Welle News on September 19, following the state elections. While the right-wing AfD party, which is critical of Merkel’s refugee policy, received 14 percent of the vote, Brockmeier attributed the weak results of the CDU party mostly to internal Berlin politics.
