Turkey’s refugee protection is not good enough for blanket returns
Turkey has done a laudable job of protecting refugees, but its current system is not good enough to accept the return of all asylum seekers from Greece, said Julian Lehmann on the Al Jazeera program Newshour on April 23. While Turkey has significantly improved its asylum law and issues work permits to refugees, the situation of thousands of Syrians who remain outside of camp settings is inadequate, and the government is sealing the borders to block out individuals fleeing Syria.
