Plans for having EU body decide asylum applications face feasibility challenge
The EU Commission’s proposal to task an EU body rather than member states with deciding asylum applications would ensure consistency of asylum procedures across EU states, addressing a major weakness of the current asylum system, said Julian Lehmann in an interview with German radio station rbb on April 5. But the plan is fraught with questions of feasibility, given that a major EU treaty would have to be amended in what would likely be a lengthy procedure, according to Lehmann.
