Principled pragmatism should guide human rights shaming

Shaming is most effective when local and international actors work in tandem towards strategically selected goals, argued Katrin Kinzelbach and Julian Lehmann at a panel discussion organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation on March 14. Together with Markus Löning, former human rights commissioner of the German government, and Joachim Steffens of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Kinzelbach and Lehmann discussed the findings of their policy paper on publicity in human rights diplomacy.
