MP echoes GPPi recommendations in human rights debate at Bundestag

Citing the recommendations of a GPPi policy brief, Ute Finckh-Krämer (SPD) urged parliamentarians to coordinate public statements on political prisoners across party lines. In a statement before the German Bundestag on January 28, Finckh-Krämer said more parliamentarians should commit to working on individual cases, noting that the parliamentarians for parliamentarians” program remains underused. All relevant Bundestag committees – not just the human rights committee – should tackle political imprisonment cases. Finckh-Krämer called upon the Presidium and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to implement GPPi’s recommendations.
