EU–West Africa economic agreements could undermine regional integration in Africa

The free trade agreement struck between the EU and West Africa last year was intended to foster regional integration, but it may actually obstruct cooperation on economic integration in Africa, specifically the African Union’s plan to create a continental free-trade area, argued Clara Weinhardt at a workshop organized by the North German Missionary Society in Bremen on January 16. The workshop was for recent volunteers of the German weltwärts” program, which supports development projects abroad.
