Safe Harbor decision will force Europe and US to jointly increase personal data protection

In declaring the Safe Harbor agreement invalid, the European Court of Justice will put pressure on Europe and the US to better secure data from unlawful access by public authorities, argued Isabel Skierka during a panel discussion at the German Marshall Fund’s Young Transatlantic Network on November 11. Skierka added that the ruling poses risks for the free cross-border flow of data if decision-makers fail to renegotiate or find an alternative to the Safe Harbor privacy principles.
