BRICS unified by desire to delegitimize Western power in global order

Thorsten Benner and Oliver Stuenkel spoke about the BRICS’ role on the global stage during separate discussions hosted by the Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance in Berlin on August 22. According to Benner, the BRICS want to delegitimize Western hegemony, leading to the construction of a ​“parallel institutional order,” exemplified by the New Development Bank. Meanwhile, Stuenkel called for a less Western-centric perspective, arguing that a more BRICS-dominated world will not necessarily lead to less peace and greater chaos.
