EU refugee policymaking should show more political initiative

The European Union should practice greater political agency in the creation of refugee policy, rather than merely abiding by the minimum legal norms, argued Julian Lehmann in a discussion hosted by the German radio station Deutschlandfunk. Lehmann said that current refugee policies exploit legal gaps in order to restrict access to asylum and that the EU should instead proactively create migration channels for different types of migrants, including refugees.
