WTO at 20: Integration of development and environment issues into the world trade regime remains contested

Twenty years after the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the trade-related issues that fall under its jurisdiction and their decision-makers remain contested. At a workshop hosted by GPPi and the University of St. Gallen on May 28 to 29, scholars and researchers discussed the role of norms, ideas and heuristics in the world trade regime, and how cognitions affect the inclusion of development and environmental issues (e.g., sustainability figures prominently on the WTO agenda, but other environmental concerns do not).
