UN credibility compromised by failure to investigate abuses
Troop-contributing countries are responsible for investigating crimes committed by their soldiers, even when they are under the command of the United Nations, but the UN should make every effort to assist these investigations, argued Sarah Brockmeier in an interview with the German radio station SWRinfo. Brockmeier said that the UN’s failure to stop the abuse of children by French soldiers in a UN camp in the Central African Republic hurts the organization’s credibility.
