Magnificent and Beggar Land, Ricardo Soares de Oliveira​’s account of the fast-changing dynamics of Angola, is quoted in an article from the June 2015 issue of The New Yorker. The article examines the severe inequality of the oil boom in Angola, one of the world’s least developed countries, and cites Soares de Oliveira’s book (published earlier this year) while discussing the country’s egregious kleptocracy.
