UN Security Council needs a new way to oversee the use of military force
Academics and policymakers should develop a mechanism to prevent military coalitions authorized by the UN Security Council to go beyond their mandates, argued Philipp Rotmann at a April 10th conference in New York about the future of the responsibility to protect. That mechanism should ensure the Security Council can oversee UN-mandated interventions but without micromanaging every aspect of the campaign, said Rotmann, whose argument is based on findings from a new GPPi policy paper, Effective and Responsible Protection from Atrocity Crimes.
