Policy recommendations for better protection from atrocities presented at German Mission to the United Nations
Policymakers must make progress in five policy areas to better protect people from atrocity crimes, argued Philipp Rotmann at a meeting hosted by the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York on 8 April 2015. These areas are: More diverse and transparent information sources; deploying civilian tools early, fairly, strategically; improving UN peacekeeping; more inclusive decision-making; and constant learning. Together with project partner Marcos Tourinho from São Paulo, Rotmann presented the final policy paper of an international research project about R2P. A Storify recap of the event is also available. This project has been generously supported by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of its program “Europe and Global Challenges,” in cooperation with Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and Compagnia di San Paolo.
