Germany’s child protection is failing migrant children

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Marion Sandner argues in the Frankfurter Rundschau (in German) that there are still major compliance gaps in Germany when it comes to protecting the rights of migrant children, a concern picked up by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in its latest examination of children’s rights in the country. She argues that profound changes in Germany’s societal mindset and structures are necessary in order to fully guarantee the fundamental principles of non-discrimination and equality of opportunities for all.
