Don’t expect miracles from UN peacebuilding review in 2015
The 2015 review of the UN peacebuilding architecture is unlikely to address the key obstacles to effective and coordinated engagement with countries emerging from conflict, argued Philipp Rotmann at a seminar on “A New Deal for the Peacebuilding Commission?” hosted by the Working Group for Peace and Development (FriEnt) on 3 November 2014 in Berlin. Based on GPPi’s work on organizational learning and coordination, Rotmann argued that the fragmentation of institutions and budgets for peacebuilding must be addressed at the national level before major progress can be expected at the UN.
