GPPi researcher calls on the EU to review its human rights dialogue with China
“The EU must rethink its approach to promoting human rights in China,” says Katrin Kinzelbach. Her new book, The EU-China Human Rights Dialogue: Quiet Diplomacy and its Limits, was launched in Washington DC on 20 October 2014 at an event hosted by Human Rights Watch. The book chronicles the EU’s quiet diplomacy with China from 1995 to the present day. Beijing’s willingness to listen to concerns behind closed doors has dramatically decreased. “To be more effective, the EU should use leverage to alter cost-benefit calculations made in Beijing,” concludes Kinzelbach.
