GPPi and SAIIA step up discussions on South Africa’s responsibility to protect
On 19 September 2014 the South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA)
in cooperation with GPPi hosted a workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. Participants debated the role of regional organizations in the protection of civilians, the relationship between the International Criminal Court and the “responsibility to protect” (R2P) as well as their role in the prevention of mass atrocities. The workshop is part of GPPi’s project “Debating the Responsibility to Protect in Brazil, China and South Africa,” which aims to facilitate more nuanced debates on the subject. Live updates from the workshop can be found on our Storify log.
