Researcher calls for more investment in stabilization of violent conflicts

In an article published in Internationale Politik, Philipp Rotmann calls for greater German investment in the stabilization of violent conflicts. Rotmann takes issue with the common practice of analyzing acute crises primarily in terms of ​“fragility” or the weakness of state institutions. In acute emergencies, says Rotmann, state-building is not a realistic objective. Instead, the goal should be stabilization: to support local actors in overcoming the acute political crisis and achieving a stable level of fragility.
