Researcher calls for diplomacy and civil society engagement to address forgotten humanitarian crises

In a public discussion on May 8 organized by the non-profit Gemeinsame Konferenz Kirche und Entwicklungundefined, Andrea Binder called for stronger German political engagement to address forgotten humanitarian crises, such as that of internally displaced persons in Pakistan. Based on research results from a 2013 GPPi study called Reflections on the Inequities in Humanitarian Assistance, Binder argued that inequities in humanitarian assistance are the result of rational decision-making based on political interests and financial capacity, a calculus that violates many people’s sense of justice.
