International Review of the Red Cross releases GPPi article on emerging humanitarian donors

GPPi researchers Andrea Binder and Claudia Meier have written an article about emerging non-Western humanitarian donors for the forthcoming issue of the International Review of the Red Cross. Published by the International Committee of the Red Crossundefined and Cambridge University Press, the International Review of the Red Cross is one of the few peer reviewed journals that focuses on humanitarian action.

Based on three years of research on non-Western donors at GPPi, the article is titled Opportunity Knocks: Why Non-Western Donors Enter Humanitarianism and How to Make the Best of itundefined. The authors discuss how the diversification of government donors will affect humanitarian action. They analyze the different conceptions of humanitarianism, motivations for funding as well as the channels, aid modalities and modes of cooperation that non-Western donors use. In a summarizing part, the authors discuss how traditional donors and organizations could better engage with emerging donors to seize opportunities and mitigate potential risks.

The article appears in volume 93, issue 884 of the journal, the theme of which is the future of humanitarian action.
