GPPi contributes to Bergedorf Round Table in China
From 31 August to 2 September 2012, GPPi’s Katrin Kinzelbach participated in the 151st Bergedorf Roundtable
, which took place in Huangshan, China. The Bergedorf Round Table was initiated in 1961 as an informal, high-level international platform for politicians, government representatives and experts to discuss issues of foreign and security policy. It is chaired by the former President of Germany, Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, and funded by the Körber Foundation.
The 151st Bergedorf Round Table was organized in collaboration with the International Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Its theme was “What China wants” and discussions revolved around China’s domestic development, its role in global governance and the contribution it can make to help solve current international challenges. The participants also discussed Europe’s financial crisis and its impact on European foreign and security policy, as well as prospects for the strategic partnership between Europe and China.
Katrin Kinzelbach’s contributions focused on human rights, one of the more sensitive and conflict-laden issues in Europe’s relations with China.
