GPPi conducts strategy workshop on Afghanistan with German officials

On 9 January 2012, GPPi conducted a strategy workshop with German government officials on defining the future international role in Afghanistan, after combat forces are scheduled to withdraw at the end of 2014. The session was held as part of a project with the German Federal Foreign Office and included representatives of the ministries of defense, development cooperation and interior.

GPPi fellow Philipp Rotmann and research associate Steffen Eckhard developed the workshop concept with the client and facilitated the event itself. The GPPi team provided background research on scenarios and upcoming policy challenges in managing the next phase of the international intervention in Afghanistan, and is preparing policy recommendations as a result of the workshop.
