GPPi and CTR publish edited volume on "Humanitarian Assistance: Improving U.S.-European Cooperation"

The book Humanitarian Assistance: Improving US-EU Cooperation was published on 9 November 2009. It highlights the importance of strengthening US-EU cooperation to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian assistance. It provides detailed recommendations on how this can be done without excluding other partners.

The book, edited by GPPi’s Associate Director Julia Steets and Daniel S. Hamilton, Director, Center for Transatlantic Relations, compares the principled approach of the European Commission to the more pragmatic approach of the US government. It contains detailed case studies on Nepal, Darfur, Nicaragua, Palestine, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Chad, Kosovo, the 2004 Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, as well as different forms of business engagement in humanitarian assistance.
