GPPi and CTR hold the Second “Transatlantic Dialogue on Humanitarian Action”

Titled Practitioners and Policymaking: Building Effective Transatlantic Action on Disaster Relief and Preparedness,” the Second Transatlantic Dialogue on Humanitarian Action (TDHA) was held on December 15 – 16 at the The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), The Johns Hopkins University. This dialogue was conducted in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Transatlantic Relationsundefined, and with support from the European Commissionundefined and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Develoment undefined(BMZ). The TDHA conferences are part of Global Public Policy Institute’s 18-month research and dialogue program entitled Raising the Bar: Enhancing Transatlantic Governance of Disaster Response and Preparednessundefined conducted in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Transatlantic Relations. 

The conference was the second in a series of three transatlantic dialogues. This event compared and contrasted policy approaches of the United States and European Union with reference to doctrine, programming principles and sectoral priorities. Speakers and participants included George Rupp, CEO and President of International Rescue Committee, and Bob Powers, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Disaster Operations Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
