GPPi participates in conference on think tanks in the security sector of the Western Balkans

GPPi Research Associate Raphael Bossong contributed to the conference titled How can independent research centers be successfully involved in security politics?” The conference took place from December 3 – 5 in Belgrade. The event was organized by the Serbian Center for Civil-Military Relations and was attended by research institutions and NGOs from various Western Balkan countries as well as by representatives of international organizations and European think tanks. Raphael Bossong spoke on the strategies of research institutes to impact the EU on security policy-making and pointed to the knowledge gaps on multi-dimensional peace operations. In this context, he presented GPPi’s ongoing research project Learning to Build the Rule of Law? The Evolution of Police and Judicial Reform in EU Peace Operations. This project looks at the EU’s security engagements in the Western Balkans and resonated with the work on security sector reform by other conference participants.
