GPPi Fellow contributes to IIASA conference
GPPi Fellow Andreas Goldthau contributed to the conference entitled “Linking North Africa’s Renewable Electricity Potential to Europe: Policy Challenges.” The event took place in Laxenburg, Austria, on November 24 – 26, and was hosted by the International Institute for Applied System Analysis (IIASA). Participating in the Security and Governance Working Group, Goldthau provided an overview of the challenges Europe faces regarding energy security and critically reviewed some common preoccupations with regards to import dependency, concerns about energy-terrorism, and the power of energy cartels. On the other hand, Goldthau pointed to three crucial elements which together can provide for reliable supply of energy at affordable prices: investments, market transparency and mutual exchange mechanisms.
