GPPi to chair discussion on peacekeeping and nation-building

GPPi Associate Director Thorsten Benner will chair a discussion entitled Waging Peace” as part of an ongoing Harvard Berlin Dialogues” series being conducted by the Harvard Center for European Studies. This event is being organized in cooperation with the Hertie School of Governance and the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB) and will take place on 15 October 2007 at the WZB. The session focuses on peacekeeping as a reliable method of securing long-term stability, and nation-building as the partner of peacekeeping. Speakers will include:

  • Prof. Mentor Agani, Lecturer in Sociology and Political Science, University of Pristina, where he teaches on theories of nation and nationalism and global Transformations; former deputy director of the Kosovar Civil Society 
  • Prof. David Little, T.J. Dermot Dumphy Professor of the Practice in Religion, Ethnicity, and International Conflict, Harvard Divinity School 
  • Lt. General Karlheinz Viereck, Commander, Bundeswehr Operations Command, Potsdam; head of peacekeeping mission in the Congo
