Oliver Jung

Communications Associate

Jung web

Oliver Jung works as communications associate at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he contributes to the institute’s publications and outreach and dissemination activities. His interests include migration policy, political radicalism, and the ways in which historical narratives are used and abused within the political realm.

Before joining GPPi, Oliver worked as a senior editor for the Global History Student journal, an academic journal aimed at offering starting academics a platform to publish. His editing and comms’ skills were further honed while conducting communications and web management for Leiden University. A passion for public history led him to work as a historical bike tour guide and as a researcher/writer for a Dutch TV-show on the Burgundy Empire (you’d be forgiven for blanking on the exact historical details surrounding this medieval European empire…!).

Oliver holds a master’s degree in Global History at the Freie Universität and Humboldt Universität in Berlin, with a dual concentration in Eastern European history and queer history. He completed a second master’s degree in European History, splitting his time between Leiden University (in the Netherlands), Oxford University, and the Sorbonne. He received a bachelor’s degree in Social History at Leiden University and spent three semesters abroad (in the US and Morocco). His studies in Berlin were financially supported by the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) Full Research Scholarship.
