Julian Philippi

Julian Philippi was a research associate at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he contributed to the institute’s work on multilateral coalition building and the changing global order. As part of this work, Julian was seconded to the German Federal Foreign Office’s Policy Planning Unit for 2021. During his time at the Foreign Office, he was part of the team that produced the German Government’s White Paper on Multilateralism, to which he contributed the chapters on humanitarian aid and development cooperation.
Prior to joining GPPi, Julian worked with the German development agency GIZ in Nigeria to strengthen the ECOWAS Peace and Security Architecture and Operations (EPSAO). As a student, Julian interned as a strategy consultant and event manager. He volunteered with Global Brigades and Viva Con Agua, working on projects aimed at improving access to water.
Julian holds a master‘s degree in international affairs from the Hertie School in Berlin. During his exchange semester at Georgetown University, Julian explored the transatlantic security relationship. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics and law from the University of Münster. As an undergraduate, Julian spent a year at the University Paris Nanterre, where he specialized in international law.
